CATS Cambridge Community Comes Together to Support Cambridge Foodbank

At CATS Cambridge, we believe that education extends beyond academic success. It is about developing confident, responsible individuals who are prepared to make a positive contribution to the world around them.

Recently, students participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Society demonstrated this commitment through a student-led volunteering initiative in support of Cambridge Foodbank.

A Student-Led Approach to Making a Difference

A group of 25 students worked collaboratively to design and deliver a school-wide food collection campaign. From initial planning through to execution, students took ownership of the project, developing a clear strategy to raise awareness and encourage participation across the school community.

This included delivering presentations and assemblies, as well as creating visual materials to highlight the important role of the foodbank and the impact of community support.

Engaging the Whole School Community

To maximise engagement, students introduced a friendly inter-house competition. Younger students in Trinity Bridge joined older students from Eagles, Granta and Sedgwick, working together towards a shared goal.

While Sedgwick House was the fastest and most generous in their contributions, the success of the initiative was defined by the collective effort across the entire school. Students, staff and families all played a role in supporting the campaign.

Developing Skills for Life

Through this initiative, students strengthened key skills that are central to their development at CATS Cambridge. These included communication, organisation, teamwork and leadership, alongside a deeper understanding of social responsibility.

Experiences such as this form an important part of a holistic education, preparing students not only for university, but for life beyond the classroom.

A Meaningful Outcome

The project resulted in a significant contribution to Cambridge Foodbank, supporting families within the local community.

While the competition added energy and motivation, the true success of the initiative lies in its impact. The real winners are the families who will benefit from the donations, and a school community that continues to demonstrate compassion, collaboration and a shared sense of purpose.
