As we celebrate our second wave of university offers, we spoke with Christine, Head of Higher Education at CATS Cambridge, about how she personally supports students every step of the way from their first university plans to securing their offers.
Experience That Makes a Difference
Before joining CATS Cambridge over 13 years ago, Christine worked in Liverpool for 20 years as a University Admissions and Information Officer. Her role involved overseeing all aspects of the admissions process and making decisions on undergraduate and postgraduate applications.
That depth of admissions experience gives her a unique insight into exactly what universities are looking for.
“When I first meet a student one-to-one, I often have a strong sense of what they can achieve. I treat every student as an individual because each one has their own academic strengths, ambitions and aspirations. I encourage them to look at their application through the eyes of an Admissions Officer, so they understand exactly what they are including and why. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student’s hard work and dreams become reality.”
At CATS Cambridge, Christine oversees careers guidance, university preparation and alumni support personally guiding students through course choices, university selection, personal statements, admissions tests and much more.
Dedicated One-to-One Support
Every student receives individual guidance throughout both the UCAS and international application processes. Christine supports students with:
- Exploring suitable university options based on predicted grades
- Advising on course selection
- Developing strong and compelling Personal Statements
- Preparing for additional admissions tests
- Communicating with universities
She carefully monitors progress, sets clear internal deadlines and keeps detailed records to ensure each application stays on track. This structured but highly personal approach helps students feel supported rather than overwhelmed.
Christine also organises two annual University Fairs at CATS Cambridge, welcoming over 45 universities in October and November. These events give students valuable opportunities to speak directly with admissions representatives and gain confidence discussing their chosen courses.
Building Confidence for the Next Step
Applying to university can feel daunting, but Christine’s experience and positive approach help students believe in what is possible. Through workshops, presentations and careers sessions, she equips students with practical knowledge about university life and future pathways.
By breaking the process into manageable stages and offering consistent one-to-one guidance, students develop the confidence and clarity they need to succeed.
Tailored to Every Student
Christine treats every student as an individual. Some aim for highly competitive institutions; others explore specialist courses or alternative routes. Her advice is always personalised based on predicted grades, strengths, interests and long-term goals.
She also liaises directly with universities where necessary and ensures students with additional needs receive appropriate guidance. Every application is crafted to reflect the student’s unique strengths and aspirations.
Support That Goes Beyond Results Day
One of the areas Christine is most proud of is supporting students through challenging moments particularly if they do not initially meet their offers. With careful coordination and strong university relationships, she guides students successfully through Clearing and alternative progression routes, ensuring every student secures a suitable next step.
University Destinations
In 2025, CATS Cambridge proudly sent two of its students to the University of St Andrews to study Biology and Financial Economics. Many other students progressed to top 10 UK universities, including Durham University, University College London, and the University of Warwick. Several students also gained places at prestigious international universities.

A Lasting Commitment
What Christine enjoys most is supporting students at such a pivotal stage in their lives seeing their growth, resilience and success throughout the application journey.
CATS Cambridge’s diverse international community also makes the role especially rewarding. And importantly, students know her support does not end when they leave the school. Whether applying for a Master’s degree or even a PhD in the future, they are always welcome to return for guidance.
